To qualify you must meet the following conditions:
1. You must be Canadian: The program is open to all Canadians of every age from the youngest of children to the oldest of adults. The financial benefits available to you and your family will vary depending on your age or your child’s age. For example, for people under fifty years of age and this includes children, the Government will give you up to $90,000 to put into a Retirement Savings Plan to help you save for retirement and give parents the peace of mind to knowing that there is adequate money to provide for your child’s future needs. For many people the benefits will be life changing as the benefits can be well in to the hundreds of thousands of dollars over time. You owe it to yourself and your family to call the experts at TAG to see what help is out there for you.
2. Your medical condition must last for a year: Your problem or difficulty must be expected to last for at least one year or more. The problem does not have to be new. It can be a long standing difficulty and the longer you have had the problem the more money there is available to you and
your family.
3. Your condition makes it hard to do 1 or more of the basic activities of daily living: You may have heard the phrase “basic activities of daily living” before as it is used in many disability programs. For the purpose of our programs, it simply means that your problems or difficulty results in you having a problem with any one or more of the following nine categories:
- Walking | Hearing | Bowel or Bladder Functions
- Dressing | Seeing | Mental Functioning
- Eating | Speaking | Life Sustaining Therapy
You only need a problem in one of those categories to qualify. You may be surprised to learn that you or someone you know has a qualifying condition that will open the door to these massively generous benefits from the Government of Canada.

What is the Child Disability Benefit aside From a Possible $20,000 Refund?

This program is one part of the Government’s efforts to provide parents with the peace of mind in knowing that your child will have enough money to provide for their future financial needs. When you combine the Child Disability Benefit with the money available for the Disability Tax Credit and then add in the benefit from an RDSP the amount of money available is staggering.
The Government of Canada has given all of us the tools to do this, you just have to take the step of setting it all up for your child. You can also call our tax experts and we will set it all up for you. It is what we do. For children the benefits can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars over time. What is the Registered Disability Savings Program and How do I Benefit From It?
When combined with a proper financial plan, an RDSP can literally translate into hundreds of thousands of dollars for a person. The Government of Canada will give you up to $90,000 to contribute toward your RDSP and when this money is invested properly, it can grow to fantastic amounts of money over time. Once you turn fifty years of age the Government contributions end.
One of the benefits of working with TAG is that we are experts in the RDSP and we will ensure that it is properly set up and done right so that from the onset you will have all of the money you are entitled to from the Government of Canada.
There are significant complexities to an RDSP and it would be our absolute pleasure to discuss how this program may benefit you and your family.
Are There Any Restrictions on What I Can Do With My Refund?
No. There are no restrictions on what you can do with the money we help you get back. It’s your money and you can do with it as you choose and best of all it is all tax free and will not affect any of your other benefit programs.
How Long Does It Take To Get a Refund?
Once TAG has completed your application, we will submit it to the Canada Revenue Agency for them to process. It takes approximately 3 to 6 months to obtain a refund. Once the refund arrives, you will then and only then owe TAG their fees which I am sure you will agree, would have been well earned by TAG at that point in time.
Do People Receiving CPP or QPP Disability Benefits, Workers’ Compensation Benefits or Other Disability or Insurance Benefits Automatically Qualify?
The good news is that if you qualify for the Disability Tax Credit and are under 50 years of age you will also qualify for the Registered Disability Savings Program and be eligible for up to $90,000 from the Government of Canada to help you fund it.
Disability law is complex and you owe it to yourself to call the experts at TAG to ensure that you are receiving all of the benefits the Government says you are entitled to. By working with the disability experts at TAG we materially increase your chances of success.
What Are Some Conditions That Someone Would Qualify for these Disability Benefits?
To make it easy for you we have put together a list of some of the diseases that lead to qualification. As you go through the list of diseases please keep in mind that there are literally hundreds of other diseases that can lead to qualification as well. The key is that the symptoms of the disease result in you having a problem with one or more of the following activities. Having a problem means that it takes you significantly longer to do the activity than it would take a person of your age without the problem to do the activity:
- Walking
- Dressing
- Eating
- Hearing
- Seeing
- Speaking
- Bowel or Bladder Functions
- Mental Functioning
- Life Sustaining Therapy
- Type 1 Diabetes
So for example, chronic pain often leads to qualification, whether it is caused by back, leg or hip problems, arthritis, diabetes or otherwise. It becomes harder to walk when you are in pain and so you walk slower than a healthy person of your age does.
If you suffer from pain or weakness or a loss of dexterity or movement in your fingers, hands, arms, shoulders or back or neck such that it is hard and relatively time consuming for example to operate a can opener or peel a potato or cut meat or to shower and generally prepare yourself in the morning you will also likely qualify.
Many forms of stomach problems, including IBS, qualify because it results in you spending more time dealing with your bowel and bladder functions that a healthy person of your age does.
If your child has a form of autism, a learning or behavioural problem or other special needs your child will likely qualify.
Anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, addiction as well as many other form of psychological problems will also lead to qualification.
The point to bear in mind is that if the symptoms or effects of the disease result in you having a problem in one or more of the above set out activities, you owe it to yourself to call the disability experts at TAG to see if you qualify and what money is available to you and your family. It is the responsible thing to do and best of all there is no risk because unless we are successful in getting you money, there is no charge.
